The executive director of Senghor University, Dr. Thierry Verdier, praised Egypt’s efforts in completing the university’s new headquarters in Borg El Arab City in Alexandria, describing the project as a major academic achievement backed by several countries, particularly Egypt and France.
Speaking to Extra News on Saturday, Verdier said the university represents a unique educational and cultural experience that attracts students from Francophone African countries, helping foster cultural diversity and interaction among students from across the continent.
He also expressed pride in participating in the planning and implementation of the new campus, which is expected to strengthen the university’s role as one of Africa’s leading Francophone academic institutions.
Senghor University has long served as one of the leading Francophone educational institutions focused on preparing African professionals and future leaders across a range of development-related sectors.
According to Verdier, the university’s mission goes beyond academics by creating an environment that encourages cultural interaction and intellectual exchange among students representing different African countries and backgrounds.
He noted that the diversity of students attending the university reflects the institution’s broader role as a bridge linking Francophone cooperation with African development priorities.
“The university creates an educational and cultural environment that brings together students from across Africa.”

Meanwhile, university president Dr. Hany Helal said the new campus was designed according to the latest international academic standards.
Helal explained that the university’s programs focus not only on management sciences, but also on developing students’ personal skills, technological capabilities, and professional expertise.
The goal, he said, is to prepare qualified African professionals capable of contributing to sustainable development efforts in their home countries.
According to Helal, the campus was carefully planned to provide modern educational facilities capable of supporting advanced teaching methods, practical training, and cross-disciplinary academic programs.
He added that the university’s broader mission is tied directly to supporting development efforts across the African continent through knowledge exchange and specialized professional preparation.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is expected later today to officially inaugurate the university’s new campus in Borg El Arab, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and several African officials.
The inauguration comes during Macron’s official visit to Egypt and reflects growing Egyptian-French cooperation in education, Francophone initiatives, and African development.
The event is also expected to highlight Egypt’s expanding role as a regional center for higher education and academic cooperation with African countries.
Beyond the inauguration ceremony itself, the new Senghor University campus reflects a broader effort by Egypt and France to invest in education, youth development, and long-term cooperation across Africa.
